The presentation is part of InterAct’s broad and inclusive commitment to bringing awareness to DV. In doing so, it further strengthens the partnership of InterAct with the entire healthcare system at WakeMed.

Join us for the Relationship Violence Awareness Month Resource & Community Fair! Explore campus and community resources, learn about healthy relationships, and engage in interactive activities designed to raise awareness about relationship violence. Collect stamps at each table for a chance to win raffle prizes, and leave with practical tools and knowledge to support yourself and others.
October is Relationship Violence Awareness Month (RVAM). The goal of RVAM is to raise public awareness around relationship violence and educate communities on how to prevent it. We know that one month is not enough time to stop relationship violence. However, RVAM is an opportunity to energize and expand prevention efforts.

On Oct. 20, as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Women’s Center invites the campus community to the opening of the Silent Witness Visualization Gallery. This exhibit draws on the history of the national Silent Witness project while centering the lived impact of intimate partner violence in North Carolina. The gallery will feature photographs from last year’s powerful live installation, where community members embodied the stories of those whose lives were taken by intimate partner violence. These images serve as a remembrance and a call to action, urging us to honor the victims, uplift survivors and commit to building safer communities. The exhibit opening will provide space for reflection, dialogue and connection, reminding us that domestic violence is not just a private tragedy but a collective responsibility.

What is Purple Thursday?

A National Day:
Purple Thursday is a nationally recognized day during October that asks people to wear purple to raise awareness and show solidarity for those affected by domestic violence.

Origin of the Color:Purple was chosen to honor the long history of the suffrage movement and the dedication of advocates who wore purple to fight for women’s equal rights, and it continues to symbolize support for survivors.
The Women’s Center hosts events throughout the month of October to raise awareness of the prevalence and impact of domestic violence, and share resources and strategies to support those who have experienced it. It’s important to understand that domestic violence can occur in many different forms, including physical, sexual, emotional, and economic, and it can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, or ability. Because it is often hidden from public view, it can be difficult for a victim/survivor to leave.
Every October, join us for a variety of DVAM events including art exhibits, community gatherings, educational workshops, and/or discussions.

InterAct will join the Wake Forest High School Juniorette Club for a special meeting to share the organization’s mission, vision, and life-saving services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Wake County.
Students will learn about InterAct’s impact in the community, including 24/7 crisis response, shelter, legal advocacy, and youth-focused programs, as well as how they can raise awareness and take action during Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October.
This is a closed event, open only to members of the Wake Forest High School Juniorette Club.

Every October, InterAct joins a powerful national movement during Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). It’s a time to honor survivors and raise awareness. What began as a “Day of Unity” in 1981 became an official, month-long observance in 1987. This year, in 2025, we reflect on over three decades of national progress, and the critical work that remains.
